Metro Housing meets families and individuals wherever they are on the housing continnum, including in their own communities.

One such community is Georgetowne Homes in Hyde Park, managed by Beacon Communities.

These colocations are part of Metro Housing’s ongoing efforts to be more visible in the communities we serve and to be more responsive to our clients and their housing needs. Partnering with local agencies, community organizations, and property owners provide residents with access to multiple services convenient to where they live, in familiar locations that are physically and culturally accessible.

“The residents of Georgetowne Homes benefit greatly from having a case manager from Metro Housing directly on site each and every week. This allows for better communication and follow up between residents, the Management Office, and Metro Housing to complete financial assistance applications and submit necessary documents in a timely manner.”

In April 2022, Metro Housing held a community event at Georgetowne Homes, helping more than 55 residents complete applications for rental assistance.

Georgetowne Homes resident Kinnie Jones:   “I had two hip replacements and fell behind in my rent. The help from Georgetowne Homes and Metro Housing is really going to help me catch up. I am truly grateful for the help.”

Mirna Garcia, Metro Housing Colocation Case Manager, sees the benefits of being on site each week.  “Previously, residents did not seek help due to language barriers, access to a smartphone, lack of internet or not being able to upload documents online. I am able to help the residents through the entire process of their application - uploading, answering questions, and advocating on their behalf.”

Georgetowne Homes resident Carolyn LeClair was especially appreciative of the work done by Mirna and Metro Housing.  “Applying for RAFT through our colocation made the process easier, because I was able to know what documents were needed, and what the process would be going forward. Mirna always kept me in the loop by providing me updates and checking in on me on a regular basis. I appreciated this more than words can express.

It is not often you find someone who is willing to go out of their way to help someone in need, such as myself. These people really do care about the people they help and go above and beyond to do their jobs.”

COLOCATIONS

Metro Housing partners with local organizations and uses their expertise to supply vital housing support services to residents who have low and moderate incomes. Through these collaborations with community organizations, residents access multiple services convenient to where they live, in familiar locations that are physically and culturally accessible. The colocation sites are possible in part through the generous support of Bank of America.
